AMENDMENTS AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE BT-PSSR COURSE

The new amendments to the STCW Code under IMO Resolution MSC.560(108), effective 1 January 2026, introduce an additional competency on “Violence & Harassment” under the PSSR module in Basic Training (BT). 

BT-PSSR Updating (BT-PSSR-U) – a refresher course for existing Malaysian seafarers who previously have a Basic Training (BT) certificate.

The BT-PSSR-U course is conducted by KWPPL, with a duration of 1-day and approximately 5 learning hours. The training emphasises the new PSSR competency, including live demonstration assessments as required by the STCW Code.

MADANI MARITIME ALTERNATIVE PROFESSIONAL ATTAINMENT PROGRAMME : FOR DECK & ENGINE (COC MADANI)

The COC Madani (Written & Oral) Programme is a sponsored initiative designed to support Malaysian seafarers from the Deck and Engine departments in completing their Certificate of Competency (COC) requirements.

The programme focuses on candidates who have only one remaining written subject to pass and require additional preparation for the Jabatan Laut Malaysia (JLM) Oral Examination. Through intensive online classes, focused guidance, and continuous assessments, the programme aims to improve participants’ passing rates and enhance the career opportunities of Malaysian seafarers in the maritime industry.

Objectives : 
  • To assist Malaysian seafarers in completing their Certificate of Competency (COC) requirements.
  • To improve the passing rate for COC Written and Oral examinations among local seafarers.
  • To provide structured learning, guidance, and examination preparation through intensive online classes.
  • To strengthen the competency and employability of Malaysian maritime professionals.
  • To support the development of a highly skilled and globally competitive Malaysian maritime workforce.
